Checkered Giant Project

Inspired by Terry Vreeland(Terry's Website), I bred a black Flemish Giant buck to one of my Checkered Giant does. I was quite surprised with what the first generation litter gave me. I was impressed with the markings that were present on the kits. Pictured below is one of the does that I was particularly impressed with.

The purpose of the crossbreeding was to increase bone in my line. I have had breeders shame me for this saying if you need something in your herd bring in new blood. While this can be true this is something I am seeing across the board with the breed. They are lacking bone.

I have not monitored the weight and growth on this litter as much as I should have, but I hope to go for my second generation, possibly by sibling breeding, and I hope to update this page as I go along.
